“But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?
Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you.
They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’
Luke 14:28-30 (NLT)

Friend, the importance of you having a plan cannot be overemphasised. It is a necessity! As believers, we are the children of a meticulous and articulate father and it is best that we should be like him in all our ways. Never be left stranded due to planlessness as that doesn’t augur well for the wisdom that you possess as a Christian. The illustration used by the Lord Jesus Christ in the verse above denotes the importance of having a plan.  Never see faith as a substitute of not having a plan. Never fold your arms and say that you won’t plan because you have faith. Infact, your faith should birth a plan that shows that you are sure of success. Be an example of foresight and wisdom to the people around you as they behold your meticulous way of doing things as the Lord helps you. While drawing up a plan, one must involve the Lord, else, one’s planned efforts end in futility. A very declarative statement concerning this is seen in the verse below:

‘You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.’ Proverbs 19:21 (NLT)

In essence, if one keeps planning outside God’s purpose, one will keep failing. But if one’s plan corresponds with God’s purpose, success is inevitable. The only way to have such an effective plan is if the plan is designed with the Lord involved all through. Practicals steps to involving the Lord in your plans are:

1. Tell the Lord about the project in prayer and invite him into your affairs.

2. Ask him for wisdom to plan well.

3. Study the words of God as concerns what you want to do.

4. Listen to the Holy Spirit as he guides you through.

5. You could as well involve men of God for divine counsel, as you are led by the spirit.

These done and being sure of the Lord’s approval, press on in faith  with the plan and do exceedingly great exploits. My friend, as you go into this week, please draw up a plan of what to be achieved this week and how to go about it, the Lord guiding you.

Don’t live a planless life.

His ways.

‘For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’ Isaiah 55:9(NLT)

If the Lord tells you to do something that appears very different from what you feel should have been done, please do it. Don’t ask questions or try to connect the dots in your mind, just obey. His is the best approach that could ever be! He spoke what he wanted in existence into being at the beginning, he is that mysterious and powerful. Believe and obey him.

As humans, we make judgements, mostly based on what we see. Whereas, our God sometimes decides based on what we can’t see at that moment and he thus gives us directions on those unseen factors that guarantee victory if we obey him. In 1 Chronicles 20:17, the Lord’s instruction to the people of Judah concerning the impending war was very different from everyday military strategy. Instead of telling them to gear up for war and develop strategies to win, he simply told them to stand still and watch his victory. Thank God they obeyed by not fighting but praising him instead because if they had done otherwise, they would have been fighting God’s battle and surely no one should ever fight God’s battle for him! He’s more than able to crush any opposition, just as he gave Judah victory eventually over their enemies.

Beloved, whatever that problem might be, God’s instruction to you is the best you need to solve it. Humbly go before him, tell him about the problem and surrender to his will as he instructs you on what to do. Don’t go your way, go his. Also, don’t doubt what he says, simply step forward with faith and overcome with him. Remember that you are the clay and he is the potter, you are the branch and he is the vine dresser, you are the living and he is the life, most definitely, his ways are not your ways.

Shalom as you stay victorious in Christ Jesus.

Asking right (Part 2)

‘When they came to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, ”Tell me what I can do for you before I am taken away.” And Elisha replied, ”Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit and become your successor.” 2 kings 2:9(NLT)

What a response to a crucial question! So deep and effective! Elisha must have been a man who paid close attention to how his master works. He must have taken time to observe that the great works done through Elijah were aided by a spirit other than the natural, the spirit of the living God. He must also have been a very diligent man to have asked to become Elijah’s successor. A lazy person wouldn’t have asked for that.

Elisha had his request granted and he had a very successful ministry as a prophet of the most high God. He asked for the right things that helped him succeed in his ministry.  It takes divine wisdom to ask for the exactly right endowments needed to succeed in ministry. The Holy Spirit does not reside in fools, he resides in the wise. And since we are children of God, we are wise because we fear the Lord. Thus, the Holy Spirit resides in us and we possess the divine wisdom needed to ask for the right things. It also takes a yielding heart to ask for the right things. If Elisha didn’t have a heart that yielded to the service and leading of the Almighty, he probably wouldn’t have replied Elijah the way he did. When one’s heart yields to the Lord, the Holy Spirit is given room to operate and facilitate the making of the right requests. As many of us as are involved in the service of the most high, we should pay attention to whatever the Lord asks us to do and rely on the Holy Spirit to help us pray and act right in obedience to what the master has commanded.

Asking for the right tools to work with helps a diligent builder do a more effective job of building, so also we asking for the right endowments through the help of the Holy Spirit will help us to fulfil purpose in an outstanding manner.

Remember, the Holy Spirit is the channel of divine wisdom that we need to pray right, let’s always rely on his guidance in prayer.

Stay blessed.

The power in the name of Jesus.

Whomever might be in any bondage whether known to them or not, will receive their deliverance if they call on the name of Jesus in faith and ask for deliverance as they turn a new leaf and dedicate their lives to Christ.

The magnitude of the problem does not matter, neither does  the level of sophistication of the enemies’ armoury. Whatever rank the adversary might occupy in the realm of darkness, the power in the name of Jesus is more than enough to obliterate them!

God is supreme and he has given Jesus a name above every other name, as seen here in Philippians 2:9(NLT): ‘Therefore God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names,”

Whatever name might have been lifted up in the stance of your affliction must submit to the power in the name of Jesus once you call upon him. When a superior officer gives a command to a subordinate, the latter has no choice but obey. Philippians 2:10-11(NLT) says: ‘ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the father.’ The principalities have no choice, they must bow! As long as you fear God and obey his commandments, whenever you call upon the name of Jesus, victory is inevitable!

The assurance of your salvation when you call upon that wonderful name is seen here in Romans 10:13(NLT): ‘For ”Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” So have no doubt in your heart whenever you call upon that name, the unimaginable happens! The impossible happens! The enemies are destroyed! The broken is repaired! The dead is brought to life! The chains are broken!

Wherever and whenever you notice the rise of any opposition from the realm of darkness, call upon the name of Jesus and the power in that name will work for you, as long as you stand with God.

I heard a powerful song today titled ‘Break every chain’ by Tasha Cobbs. Please endeavour to listen that song. The message is powerfully and insightfully true. A portion of its lyrics says, ”There is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain’. God bless you more, beloved as you press on in faith and victory.

Discovering one’s talents might take some time if it were a solo effort. However with God’s guidance and proper mentorship, one can discover more easily the treasure deposit one has been blessed with. Now, when one discovers one’s talents, what does one do with them? Does one just sit and relish the joy of discovery and possession?

No, don’t sit on them! Don’t just have them! Put them to work! Make the most of those gifts and contribute to the growth of the father’s kingdom through your use of them. Sharpen your skills, harness your strength and become an authority in whatever sphere your talent is meant for.

If a person is given an ice-cube and places it on the palm of his/her hand outdoors(in a place other than the very cold regions) and just stands staring at the ice-cube or even walks around smiling with it in hand, sooner or later, the ice-cube will melt and the person will be left with nothing, except with the slightest possibility, a tiny pool of water on the palm. But if that person goes in search of a working freezer to put the ice-cube into, that ice-cube will stay solid and last longer. Using the same analogy, a person with talent who does nothing with it might eventually lose that gift. However, the one who has a talent, discovers it and goes through the process of polishing and using it, first reap benefits from it, then might even get to discover other gifts resident  within him or her.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 25:29(NLT) : ”To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those  who do nothing, even the little they have will be taken away.”

So,my friend, stop doing nothing with your talents and start doing everything to put them to work.

And the best way to put your talents to work is to use  them in the service of the Almighty God. That is a very certain way to get eternal rewards.

Stay blessed.

If we could exhaustively comprehend the depth of the love of Christ for us,we would know much more how wonderful, beautiful and forgiving our darling saviour is. There is no hatred whatsoever in him towards us. What he detests is sin,not us. And once sin is off the scene,we’d be able to begin to comprehend how great his love for us is. He left heaven and all the majesty of his throne and came to earth to pay the ultimate price for our sins. Humility was and is still so clearly personified in our role model,Jesus Christ, who chose to serve and save. We couldn’t help ourselves so he came to be our salvation and even now,he still is . He took the pains, the shame and paid off all our debts of sin. Nothing can ever get us the righteousness that Jesus has brought us. Hallelujah!

There is no wickedness in him. He is full of endless love. A major theme of his ministry was and will always be love because he is love himself. He doesn’t want anyone to perish. He is always there, waiting to be allowed in(Revelation 3:20). How glorious!

Romans 8:35-38 contains an amazing and interesting description of the love of Christ for us. A love that made him lay down his life to save us,his friends(Matthew 15:13). That love will never end,as long as we stay true and faithful to him. Even when we err,he does not stop loving us,he loves us still. We only need to retrace our steps in repentance so that we might not lose the life that we have in him.

My friend, always remember that no matter what may be,the love of Christ for us is greater than we know. So continue in him and never stop loving him for loving us first.

I’m writing this short poem to him in appreciation, you could leave yours below too in gratitude.

Mighty and royal,

to the cause of redemption, you were loyal

battered and bruised

to saving me,you remained true

No treasure could buy

what you paid for with your life

And in all of eternity

none could surpass you in humility

You are my all!

‘No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.’ Philippians 3:13(NLT)

Driving a car northward and alternately making a turn-around southward and then northward again, over the course of a journey will not only slow down one’s progress and but might ultimately result in an accident which might claim one’s life. Also, an athlete partaking in a short distance race or any at all, has less chance of winning if he/she keeps looking forth and back, without a focus on the finish line. The point here is to emphasize the importance of focus. Dear friend, stay focused on the destination ahead. Don’t allow distractions. Let go of the ‘weight’ of your past experiences that do not bless you. Let the Holy Spirit be your guide through your thoughts.

Apostle Paul encouraged the brethren to emulate his example(reference: Philippians 3:17). We should as well. We should forget what had happened in the past that might retard our growth in the present or get in the way of our faith and rather focus on the glorious hope and heritage ahead. The beauty of what awaits us in the future as believers cannot be matched by anything that we have seen or ever experienced here on earth. So, in joyous hope, let’s not lose track of who we are and where we are going to.

Your past is gone, the present is here, rejoice as you move into the future. No matter how terrible your past might be, God is merciful and he can make anything new! 1 John 1:9 establishes that if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us too. Once you’ve confessed your sins, believe him for forgiveness and press on in the joy of your freedom in Christ!

Obedience: Remaining in his love.

”When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandment and remain in his love.” John 15:10(NLT)

As seen in 1 John 2:15, a fact can be established that if one loves the world, then the love of the father is not in one. That is, persisting in iniquity and loving the sinful path that  the yet-to-be-saved folks tread portrays one as not having the love of the father in one. You are either with God or out there with the sinful throng. And it’s best that you rather love God and shun the corrupt practices of those yet-to-be-saved.

If you’ve ever wondered how one can be sure of remaining  in the love of Christ, right there in John 15:10, you have the answer! Complete and consistent obedience to the commandments of Christ confirms that you’re still in his love. A sure way of knowing what the commandments of Christ is by studying his words as contained in the Bible after which one should commit the words to heart and obey the Lord as he instructs and has instructed.  Any seeming deviation from his commandments should be  promptly addressed through genuine repentance. Remaining in the love of Christ guarantees eternal life because whomever completely believes in Christ will obey Christ and whomever completely obeys Christ belongs to him and whomever belongs to Christ has eternal life in him. So,my dear, do all you can to remain in the love of Christ. Hold on tightly to the faith you have in him and always remember and be grateful that his grace is available to you, as a believer.

I pray that may we all remain in the love of Christ even until he comes to take us home to live with him and behold him with our eyes forever in his mighty name. Amen.

Christianity: A living movement

Moving on and the hope is still alive and will never die! A hope of an eternal life to be lived in the abode of our most high God and our darling saviour. Christianity is based on truth, love and faith in a living God.

The high council was infuriated and decided to kill the apostles, however, on the counsel of Gamaliel, a member of that same council, they changed their decision. Instead, they had the apostles flogged, ordered them never again to speak in the name of Jesus and released them. Gamaliel’s counsel to the high council contained some profound words. He said in Acts 5:38 – 39(NLT) :

”So my advice is leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!”

Gamaliel also made references to men in the past who had garnered support but whose folds collapsed after their death (reference to check: Acts 5:33-42). However, Christianity cannot be destroyed because it is from God and its originator, Jesus Christ is eternal. He is God who came to dwell in human body to achieve purpose of salvation (reference to check: John 1:1,14; 3:16).Even when he died, he was lord in the grave and he came back to life and is alive forevermore! Even over 2000 years after he returned to heaven, his power remains ever potent and his followers are still all over the world!

Friends, we have assurance that we are on the right path because our Lord said in John 14:6(NLT): ”I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the father except through me.” What a glorious connection we have that we are following the way himself and he is our link to the heavenly father!

Don’t leave for anywhere else because Christianity (It is a life lived in complete obedience and submission to the Lord Jesus Christ) is the only living movement originated by Christ and ordained by God to lead those who practise it to eternal life! Stay with Christ, stay eternally alive!

‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.’ Proverbs 3:5,6 (NLT)

Having the right partner is crucial to the success of any venture. A right partner is known by some of the qualities he/she possesses. One very crucial quality to look out for is dependability. How dependable is your partner? Can you trust this person to look out for your best interests even when you’re not present?

God is the ultimate. He is the peak of perfection in partnership. He is the best partner anyone could have because when he partners with you, success is inevitable. He is not selfish. He is altruistic. He cares deeply about those who depend on him. He will never fail you.

My friend, invite God into your affairs today. Pray to him to lead and direct you. He is to take the lead because he knows it all. He will give you directions that will take you to fulfilment in a way that would have hitherto been impossible, if he were not involved. He steps in and makes what’s already good better and takes it to best. He intervenes, when invited, and turns around a terrible situation towards excellence. He is capable, dependable and infinitely creative. Remember that you will give account of your stewardship to God some day and the best way to ensure an excellent account is to partner with God himself. What a creator so loving! He is so accessible! Despite how small we are, compared to him, he still has time to relate with us humans. And most definitely, he is the best partner we could ever ask for. Partner with God today!

”Those who partner with God suffer no loss.”

Will you partner with him?
