‘For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.’ 2 Corinthians 2:21 (NLT)
While trying to prepare for Sunday School yesterday, the significance of the resurrection of Christ simply dawned on me.
Yes, his resurrection is seen as victory over death and the power of sin. Surely, it shows to the human world the sovereignty of the one true son of God, just like he said in Matthew 28:18.
The significance of Jesus’ resurrection that I want to share in this piece is this: it has brought us a life of righteousness.
Anyone who will dwell with God must be righteous, just as God is(1 Peter 1:15,16)
We,of course, know that we fell short of God’s righteous standard long before we were born(Romans 3:23)
Jesus Christ, because of his love, mediated and offered his blood as the medium of atonement for our sins, as that was necessary for forgiveness to be granted (Hebrews 9:22)
He was hanged on the cross and bore the pains of punishment in our stead. He then died to put to naught the power of sin over those who believe in him (Romans 6:14)
So, his punishment and death were to atone for our sins and put to death the power of sin over the life of the believer.
After this renewing function of his punishment and death, he had to bring us ‘the God life’- the life of righteousness (Romans 6:10)
He then had to resurrect to make this life accessible to all who believe in him. The life of righteousness that we have got from Jesus through his resurrection is to be lived by faith.
‘I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.’ Galatians 2:20 (NIV)
So, you see, my friend, the resurrection of Christ, has brought us a life of eternal righteousness. We can now boldly live with God, without fear of condemnation (Hebrews 4:14,16), because as Jesus is, so we are! (1 John 4:17)
Glory to God!
