Two roads: Which to take.

One road is wide and offers enough room to roam, the other is narrow and a focus on the destination is therefore best while on it.

Naturally, one would like to have the room to roam, explore and have adventures, but before one concludes on which to choose, the big question to answer is, where do the roads lead?

“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.” Matthew 7:13-14 (NLT)

The narrow way leads to heaven(life)! The broad way leads to hell(death)!

The christian life is one that requires a lot of discipline and self-denial. Dying to self that Christ might live through one,  forgoing the invitation to roam in sin. No to sinful music, No to sinful dances, No to sinful gatherings, No to sinful practices. Being different and focused on the destination, travelling on that road travelled by few. Narrowing down one’s goals and desires to Christ’s will- that is it, that’s the sacrifice!

A lot of people want to explore without boundaries, no restrictions- such people will find regarding someone else as a determiner in terms of their freedom unacceptable. They simply want to live, run and rule their own lives all by themselves . Quite a number of these people find themselves on that broad way, the one that leads to hell!

God doesn’t force anyone to travel on the narrow way, he has given us free-wills and hearts to discern and choose which road we want to follow.

Travelling on the narrow road right now might seem tasking, but in the end, the reward will be much more than substantial. Journeying on the broad way now might seem enjoyable- parties, philandering, adultery, fraud and the likes, however, the reward in the end is an agonising, bitter and unending one.

This scripture paints a perfect picture: “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” Deuteronomy 30:19 (NLT)

If you realise that you’ve been travelling down the wrong road of sin and want to switch roads right now, please pray this :

‘Lord Jesus, I apologize for my wrongs. I am sorry, please forgive me. Help me off this broad road of sin unto the narrow path of righteousness. I acknowledge you as my Lord and saviour, dear son of God. Thank you for saving me.’
